In the beginning...

So, I thought I'd start blogging some stuff, mainly as an aide memoire for myself, so I can remember what I've done (and sometimes why I've done it!).

I had decided I needed to stop buying separate Raspberry PIs to run little bits of software on, and I'd seen people taking advantage of some mini pc bargains on ebay.

I've just bought a fujitsu esprimo mini, which came with Windows 10, but I thought I'd install proxmox on it instead.  We use proxmox at work, and its a nice little environment for VMs and containers.

I had all kinds of fun and games with balenaEtcher and rufus, none of which seemed to write the proxmox ISO out properly.

Then I found out about Ventoy, which allows me to put more than one ISO image on a USB stick (nice), and finally it worked.

I did of course put the wrong gateway IP in (having just changed it when I moved to Virgin broadband), so had to reinstall it again. Then I came across the problem the proxmox installer has where it hangs trying to 'detect country' if connected to a network.  So I installed it AGAIN without the network cable connected, and have got it working.  Lovely.

So, what's next for my proxmox?  Well, I fancy a bit of nodered for my homeautomation.  Maybe migrating the homeautomation from a PI to proxmox.  Getting pi-hole running again.  Who knows!
